The Felt Facade

Hello World (Yet again)

Welcome to the new brucefelt.com

Yes, yes, you may have heard this one before, but...yeah life comes at you fast and producing content is not a strength of mine.

But it's a new year! My goal this year is to try and get something posted on here around once a month, be it photos that I've taken, blog posts around software development or life in general, or who knows what else.

So what's changed in life?

Life-wise I'm still living in Berlin and actually working on setting up some semi-permanent roots here, including citizenship 🇩🇪. More info and hopefully a dedicated post for that when I know more.

I've been working at Personio since January 2024 in their core HR systems, helping to modernize some of their most core data models while maintaining support for 10 years of legacy customer integrations. It's been an interesting challenge that's involved bringing in "new" technologies (GraphQL, gRPC), establishing new company-wide standards, and cleaning up historical half steps.

What's changed on here?

You probably noticed the site is very...clean. Almost too clean. I rebuilt the website on top of NextJS after I realized the Gatsby instance I had was very outdated and was going to be painful to modernize. The new code can be found on GitHub and I'm hoping to write some blog posts about how I structured the project and approached using agentic AI coding to make it work.

What's remained is that I'm using Contentful for managing the blog posts, though this time I'm simply using JavaScript's fetch client and a set of static GraphQL queries to fetch the content.

The two posts I created in my previous iteration of the site are still available via their old URLs, I've just archived them for now since they're so out of date.

What's up next?

I'm still building out the modules for this site, but my goal for this year is to have a place where I'm able to get some content published on a regular basis, ideally monthly. One goal is to also start publishing some of the photos I've taken over the years. For example:

There's more to come (and I promise not all in portrait orientation)

Thanks for reading

If you made it to this point excellent! I hope you'll enjoy what's yet to come, both for blog posts as well as photography.
